Center for Financial Research

Visiting Scholars

The Center for Financial Research (CFR) hosts Visiting Scholars who advance the research agenda of CFR economists. By participating in the CFR Visiting Scholars program, researchers have the opportunity to leverage unique data available at the FDIC, in-depth institutional knowledge of subject matter experts, and motivated CFR staff researchers to further their research agendas.

Visiting Scholars are generally offered one-year positions with an option to extend for a second year. Following participation, CFR encourages continued formal research relationships with Visiting Scholars through Memoranda of Agreement (MOA) or Intergovernment Personnel Act (IPA) assignments as well as informal research relationships. Specific expectations of a Visiting Scholar depend upon experience and expertise, but may include:

  • Coauthoring with CFR staff.
  • Reviewing CFR staff research papers.
  • Holding regular office hours during which staff can seek advice on building their careers.
  • Attending research presentations, CFR Research Lunches, and CFR Research Coffees.
  • Providing institutional expertise and sharing knowledge of the literature to inform policy making.
  • Guiding CFR in the publication process.

The Visiting Scholar position is only available for U.S. citizens. If you are interested in the possibility of becoming a Visiting Scholar, contact cfr@fdic.gov.
