Webinar, Webex, registration information below.

The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC), and Federal Reserve Bank (FRB) of Boston will host a webinar to share information about socio-economic conditions facing low- to moderate-income Asian communities, and solutions to address the underbanked. Many of these communities represent refugees, recent immigrants, and non-English speaking populations that face barriers to accessing capital, traditional banking products, and services that are vital to financial health. Participants will learn about ways to create or expand financial institution/Community Based Organization (CBO) partnerships that can help expand access to capital, and that may receive favorable Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) consideration.

Presenters:

  • Paul Watanabe, Ph.D., Professor of Political Science and Director of the Institute for Asian American Studies, College of Liberal Arts, University of Massachusetts Boston
  • Angie Liou, Executive Director, Asian Community Development Corporation
  • Anh Vu Sawyer, Executive Director, The Southeast Asian Coalition of Central Massachusetts
  • Thomas Golden, Vice President, CRA Officer, Rockland Trust Bank
  • Carmen Panacopolous, Senior Business Strategy Manager, FRB of Boston
  • Bonita Irving, District Community Affairs Officer, OCC
  • Anna Cheong, Community Affairs Specialist, FDIC

Who should attend:

Bank presidents and chiefs, CRA officers, financial institutions, Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFIs), non-profit organizations, other CBOs, state and local government, and stakeholders interested in the availability of capital serving low- and moderate-income families in diverse populations to promote economic inclusion and mobility.
