Mia Sowell

Acting Project Manager Division of Depositor and Consumer Protection, FDIC

Mia Sowell currently serves as the Acting Project Manager for Community Affairs at the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) in Washington, DC. In this role (detail), Ms. Sowell coordinates and strengthens branch deliverables, briefs the Associate Director on emerging issues, and recommends strategies to integrate new developments and best practices into ongoing programs and new initiatives. In her permanent role as Senior Community Affairs Specialist at the FDIC, Ms. Sowell assists in directing and coordinating projects and strategic initiatives related to emerging community development and economic inclusion opportunities. In particular, she leads the FDIC’s national efforts in promoting affordable insured transaction and savings accounts, including its #GetBanked initiative, which was recognized with a 2021 Chairman’s Excellence Team Award for its extraordinary contributions to the mission, vision, and values of the FDIC. Ms. Sowell obtained her Master of Business Administration degree from The George Washington University, and Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of California, Berkeley.
