I oppose the FDIC's proposal to allow banks with assets above $250 million to be examined as small banks under the Community Reinvestment Act. This policy would reduce lending, investments and services in low-income communities. Members of low-income communities need financial services more than any other. As a staff member at a non-profit in center City Detroit, I can attest that this area is already radically underserved by way of financial services, with the consequences that the neediest amongst us are being preyed upon by those who provide the lowest quality and types of financial services at the highest possible rates.
