Bank of the West, Grapevine, Texas, has contacted the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) to report that counterfeit official checks bearing the institution's name are in circulation. Bank of the West does not issue official checks; however, it does issue cashier's checks. The counterfeit items display the routing number 111916724, which is assigned to Bank of the West. A security feature statement is embedded in a darkened top border and along the bottom border between two padlocks. The words "OFFICIAL CHECK" appear in the top-left corner below the bank's name. The statement "THE AMOUNT OF WORDS MUST MATCH THE AMOUNT IN NUMBERS" is repeated as background behind the written dollar amount. Authentic cashier's checks are pink with an ornate border. The words "CASHIER'S CHECK" are near the top center. The bank's logo (horse head), name, location, telephone number and "REMITTER" are in the top-left corner. Copies of a counterfeit item and an authentic check (VOID) are attached for your review. Be aware that the appearance of counterfeit items can be modified and that additional variations may be presented.
