Map 3. The title is "Persistent Drought Continues to Have an Adverse Effect on Areas with High Dependence on Irrigation".
A map of the Region's states, showing the counties. The western counties in South Dakota were affected by at least moderate drought in the past two years but not in 2000 and 2001. Nearly all the counties in Nebraska, except for those in the northeast corner of the state, were affected by at least moderate drought in the past two years but not in 2000 and 2001 or were affected by drought for the past four years. Eight counties in northwestern Kansas were affected by drought for the past four years, and the remaining counties in the northern and western parts of the state were affected by at least moderate drought in the past two years but not in 2000 and 2001. More than half the drought-affected counties had a high level of irrigated cropland in 2001.
