A line chart showing office absorption (in thousands of square feet) and office employment growth (in thousands) for 1994 through the first half of 2001. Employment growth and absorption were nearly parallel until 1999, but in 2000, absorption sharply exceeded employment growth. In 2001, employment growth dropped from about 1 million to about 550,000. Office absorption in 2001 was at about 45 million square feet.
