Ruth R.
Amberg is the Senior Counsel for the Consumer Compliance Section of the
Consumer and Legislation Branch in the Legal Division of the Federal
Deposit Insurance Corporation. In that capacity, she manages the
development, drafting, and interpretation of legislation, regulations,
and policy statements related to consumer protection, loan
modifications, mortgages, privacy, information security, regulatory
reform and restructuring, and other matters. Ms. Amberg previously
managed the division’s group responsible for legislation, and was a
Senior Counsel in the section charged with resolving failing banks. Ms.
Amberg also served as a Legislative Fellow on the staff of the Senate
Banking Committee, where she worked on financial institution
legislation, including FDICIA.
Prior to joining the
FDIC, Ms. Amberg served as an Associate General Counsel at the Federal
Home Loan Bank Board. She has also held positions at the Federal
Reserve Board and the Federal Trade Commission, and was an Assistant
General Counsel and administrative law judge for the Texas Banking
Commission. Ms. Amberg is a graduate of the University of Texas School
of Law.
